RE: Motosat HD

I am a DirecTV HD user and actually travel with the large Slimline. If I knew things would stay as they are, I would be a candidate for one of the Winegard or Motosat units. I have found that all of my HD programming is now available the 99, 101 and 103 satellites. Distant network HD programming that was once in the 80's on my tuner off the 119 satellite is now duplicated in the 390's off one of the new birds.
These three satellites are in a very tight cluster which would seem to eliminate the need for such a large dish and make it easier to set up the dish in a tree infested environment. I can't help believing that such a dish is in our near future, so I'm still going to hold out.

RE: power loss to tv

Did you try the TV when you had no 120 AC hooked up. I'm sure you know the outlet power switches from battery to converter when plugged to an AC source.
I had such an arrangement in an older trailer I once owned and when on converter power the 12 volt outlet would not work. Never knew why. I installed another 12 volt outlet directly to the battery source just to charge my cell phone with a car charger.

RE: Zero out all Hard Drive info before donating computer

And after all this , are you sure your schools will want your old computer? Ours only want newer ones so they don't get stuck with someone's old junk they have to spend money on to dispose of.
I have a niece who teaches in a rural Alabama school with a modest budget. I described the computer that I was about to sledge hammer and she said she could definitely use it. That is how we came to tihs point.

RE: Preparing Black Tank for Valve Replacement

The thing with my valve is a get a cup of "stuff" when I unscrew the cap.
Also,if I hook up the hose when I arrive, (I usually dump before I leave) after a day, the hose will be full of liquid even though the valve is still closed.
Get ready to roll up your sleeves or dig into your hip pocket. Something is probably stuck in that valve and it's not likely to find its way out.

RE: Preparing Black Tank for Valve Replacement

I hope their twist-on valve seals better than their caps do. If they did I wouldn't heve been so frantic about changing mine out. The drip...drip was too much. Had to place my blue tank under it to catch the drips until I got it changed.

RE: Antenna modification for DTV

You come into my area with a UHF only antenna you may not be able to pick up the local ABC affiliate after next February. Although they were originally on the analog UHF band they are transmitting digital HD on the VHF band.
Other digital broadcasts may move to the VHF band in the future according to a report I read. I wouldn't depend on the UHF antenna being the answer to digital.

RE: Zero out all Hard Drive info before donating computer

What I have done is to use the boot up disk to bring the computer back to factory. Then I attached an external hard drive loaded with music and am writing music to the "C" drive until I run out of space. After then deleting the music I ass-u-me any of my old data will be wiped out.
Any other thoughts? Thanks.

Zero out all Hard Drive info before donating computer

I have a desktop computer that I have recently replaced. I would like to donate it to a school but I want to make sure all my information stored on the hard drive is completely erased. I know there is software available to do this but is there any free software?
I still have the start-up disk so I want to get it back to new status before donating it.
Need expert help.

RE: Direct TV Feed to Rwo Receivers

One problem I've had is with pointing that 3LNB dish. I'm using one of those home-built PVC stands that flips the dish on it's back, but that makes the angles very difficult to figure. I was thinking that, if using only ONE satellite, all I'd need is maybe the center LNB pointing at the "bird" and the tilt would not be an issue since the others would not be in play. Is that correct?
At any rate, it seems I should just swap out the single feed LNB on my round dish and get a dual feed. Where is the best place to get one? And are all LNB's interchangeable?
I tried this in the past and found that the tilt would not physically move to where I needed it to be. Also the LNB's would be reversed and I don't think that will work either.

RE: Preparing Black Tank for Valve Replacement

After you have done all the above you may want to tilt the unit to the opposite side and use your leaf blower to blow air back up the pipe with the valve open just to be sure it is dry.

RE: Black water valve leak

Well, I ended up using the method suggested by "rvsatek". It went well. Had to but one of those little cable sawsto cut the PVC due to space.
Went with this simply because I could get everything I needed at Lowes.
Found the problem was created by Keystone when they glued the PVC assembly together. Some of the glue ran into the valve flange and distorted the seal. Had to file the glue off.
Thanks again to all. RV'ers on this forum are great!

RE: Black water valve leak

I like Ivtorom's solution in this case because of the enclosure which makes working in the area of the existing valve very difficult. I cut a hole in the bottom enclosure to access it, but it is still very tight. This should be reasonably easy if I can locate and purchase the flange pieces for the valve.
I also like rvsatek's solution but space is so limited that cutting the pipe with a hacksaw would be next to impossible. Maybe one of those flexible wire saws (whatever they are called).
Mike shouldn't need any "flange pieces"... you can buy a valve with the sleeves as part of the body to go right over (glue in) your existing exit pipe.....Brian
I already have a valve but it did not include the flanges. Haven't had time yet to shop for a complete valve. I'm still not settled as to which direction to go, but the suggestions in this thread have been great. Two ideas I hadn't thought of and either would work.

Black water valve leak

I am expiriencing a problem with my black water valve seeping. My fifth wheel is less than a year old and since my dealer is 600 miles away I am stuck with trying to solve the problem myself or dealing with an unhappy local dealer about 70 miles away. I thought I would just change out the valve myself which I have done before in a different fiver.
I set out to do just that and found that I could not separate the facing joint flanges without moving one of the tanks. I tried prying them apart but feared breaking a flange.
Before going further I have decided to try to clean and lubricate the existing valve and see if the problem may be solved in that way. The best idea I have come up with so far is pouring in about 10 gallons of warm water and a good supply of dishwashing detergent and driving around to try to clean it. Someone else suggested a bag of ice.
Does anyone have any ingenious method for attacking this problem?

RE: Add-on remote control for leveling jacks

I found out my rig comes with the remote you speak of as of Aug 1/08. Mine was built in June/08
SOOOO...I installed this remote 5 weeks ago.
http://www.ultra-fab.com/new_detail.cfm?mfgnum=39-941708
It's the BEST thing I have ever bought for a 5ver.
I highly recommend it
It controls my front jacks, rear electric stabilizers, the slides, and I hooked up the rig's marker lights to the 10 minute auto off control.
I could have hooked up the electric awning too, but I thought that would make me look lazy
That's what I was talking about, but looks a little pricey.
All I really want to control is the front stabilizer. I worry about moving the slides without being inside to watch for problems such as items falling during travel.

RE: securing underbelly cover

If I understand you, the panel is above the rolled under portion of the trailer siding. This is the way mine is installed and the rolled under trim is aluminum sheet. If that is te case I would drill through the aluminum and use selftapping sheet metal screws with washers to tighten it down.

Add-on remote control for leveling jacks

I see that for some of the new '08 and '09 fifth wheel trailers there is an option for a remote control for jacks. This, in my opinion, is a very nice feature. I would love to be able to move the jacks up and down from inside my truck cab when hooking up.
Has anyone seen this available as an aftermarket add-on? It would seem that installation of such a device would be relatively simple.

RE: Folding Slimline HD Dish

Mine actually came with the arm bolted on with 4 capscrews. I take out 2 of the screws and fold it up.
